Spring Pool Opening Checklist

In Florida, if you don’t keep your pool open year-round, you want to make sure you don’t miss out on any ideal pool time. So, opening your swimming pool in the early spring can ensure that you are ready to dive in when temperatures begin to consistently remain in the 70s. Here’s how to open your pool for the season:

  • First things first. Visit the pool professionals at SE Pool Supply & Chemical to purchase your pool cleaning and maintenance supplies, including stocking up on your chemicals and replacing any that have expired.
  • Then clear any debris from your pool cover before removing it, allowing it to dry and safely storing it.
  • Give all your pool equipment, including pumps, filters and fittings a once over (or call SE Pools for help if you feel more comfortable) to ensure that your pool’s operating system is in good working order.
  • If you have drained your pool, you will need to give it a good cleaning before you fill it back up and get your pool water balanced. If not, thoroughly scrub pool walls and floor, brushing the sides and vacuuming the bottom.
  • Test and balance pool water, running the pool pump to circulate your pool water until the desired pool water balance is achieved.
  • Shock your pool water after balancing it for algae and bacteria elimination, allowing time to filter away cloudiness. Then test and rebalance your pool water.
