If you own a swimming pool, you are well aware that pools are an excellent source of fun in the sun, especially when you live in Florida like us. One of the best ways to keep those smiles plastered on all everyone’s faces is to make sure your pool is a safe one. Here are some pool safety tips that every homeowner should follow…
Pools should be securely enclosed with fencing including a self-closing and self-latching gate that is out of the reach of children.
It is also ideal if alarms are installed on gates, doors and windows with direct pool access.
Other pool safety equipment that should be in reach in case of emergency is a pool safety hook or long metal pole, and life preservers should be worn by every pool goer who is not adept at swimming.
When your pool is not in use, it is best to keep it covered with a safety cover and remove ladders if applicable.
Anti-entrapment drain covers and safety release systems should be in place, and children should be taught to stay away from pool drains.
Children should learn to swim as early as possible and learning CPR is an indispensable tool for teens and adults.
There should always be a designated water watcher when children are in or around the pool. This person should be mature, attentive and never on their phone.
If your pool is a large one, float liners clearly designating the difference between shallow and deep ends can also make your pool a safer one.
