The weather has been consistently warmer and you’re jonesing for a swim. It’s time! So, what needs to take place to ensure that you have opened your pool properly?
Before you remove, clean and store your pool cover, you will do yourself a big favor if you clean up the landscaping around your pool. This is also the best time to check for any damage and inventory your pool chemicals.
You will also need to clear your pool of any debris. Brush a few hours before vacuuming to allow for everything to settle, skim your water and clean your pool filter.
Now it’s time to test and balance your pool water. At the beginning of every season, you will also need to shock it to ensure that it is safe from bacteria and to avoid algae build-up. Check all your equipment and electronics. Then run your filter for 24 hours to adequately circulate your chemicals. Finally, retest your pool water for balance and swim!
After you’ve got your pool properly opened for the season, you’ll need to schedule regular water balancing, cleaning, consistent pump operation and pool shocking if you notice algae beginning to grow, when pool water begins to look dull (It should be crystal clear.), after excessive swimming or extended periods of use and when big storms add rain and debris to your pool water.
And if all that is too much of a time suck, you might want to consider keeping your pool open year-round (We DO live in Florida!) and leaving the upkeep to the pool pros at SE Pool Supply & Chemical!
