We all like to stay fit if we can. We feel better, and it is just plain healthier. There are many great ways to lose weight, and one of the best ones is using your pool. Water aerobics have become so popular that there are classes you can take, but if you have a pool in right in your back yard, you are already good to go.
Strength exercises can increase your flexibility as well as muscle mass. Water acts as a form of resistance, so it’s a way to get the benefit of heavy lifting without the heavy weights. Plus, it is low impact. The buoyancy created by the water creates less stress on the joints, making it an especially great way for seniors to exercise too. Pool exercises can actually relieve arthritis and joint pain and increase bone density!
Put some of these exercises in your new water aerobics regimen and you are sure to peel off the pounds:
- Walk back and forth or jog in place for leg work.
- Grab the edge of the pool and push and pull yourself back and forth to work the arms.
- Leg lifts will improve balance and strengthen your core.
- Hold on to the edge of the pool and kick your legs, or use a kickboard, if you have one, to kick back and forth across the pool. If you keep a steady tempo, this is great for cardio.
