Unless you are extremely new here, you know that New Smyrna Beach offers one of the world’s most pristine beaches, waterways brimming with wildlife, a thriving arts community and two bustling main streets – one charming and historic, one lively and beachy, and both with a varied array of wonderful dining and shopping opportunities; but this area offers so much more. One shining example is the unique programming Marine Discovery Center.
For instance, what better way to spend a school break in New Smyrna Beach (aside from your swimming pool, of course!) than with a hands-on, feet-wet educational exploration of the Indian River Lagoon, led by knowledgeable instructors? Fish, hike, take a pontoon boat to islands and enjoy arts crafts, nature walks and salt water marsh exploring at the three-day Thanksgiving Break Marine Discovery Center School Holiday Camp. It’s from 8:30 am to 3 pm during the Volusia County School holidays for children from 5-12 years of age.
For over 25 years, the Marine Discovery Center has been making community connections through education and conservation of one of Florida’s most valuable treasures – a 156 mile estuary with over 4,000 species.
Throughout the year, Marine Discovery Center visitors can also enjoy a varied programming including live shore demonstrations, special events, and don’t forget to make time for a full moon eco boat tour, weather permitting!
